History[]

Strauss was founded in 1933 as a commercial dairy by Richard and Hilda Strauss. Milking business wasn't successful enough at the time, so they started making cheese, which was successful. In the 1950's, Strauss began focusing on ice cream products, with about 50 employees working at the Nahayria factory. In 1969, after Danone had purchased part of the company's ownership, they started focusing on puddings and individual packaged dairy dessert, such as Dany. In 1975, Michael Strauss, son of the founders, became CEO of Strauss. In 1995, Strauss went into the prepared salads business. A hummus brand by Strauss, "Achla" was very popular in Israel at the time. In 1997, Strauss bought 50% of the ownership of Yotvata Dairy. That same year, Strauss purchased Elite, and grew to over 7000 employees and a US$1 billion/year turnover (though the formal merger between the companies occurred only in 2004). In 2001, Ofra Strauss, daughter of Michael Strauss, became CEO of the company.

Merge with Elite[]

In 2004, Strauss merged with Elite, a company they bought in 1997. They merged under the name "Strauss-Elite". In 2007, they renamed the whole entire company to Strauss, and the Elite company remains a subsidiary.

Gogo's[]

In 2012, under the Elite company, Strauss teamed up with PPI Worldwide and PMI Limited to give away Glow In The Dark Olympic Gogo's. These were given away when you bought Elite Waffle Crisps.

In 2014, Strauss teamed up with PPI Worldwide to give away Disney Gogo's in packs of Dany Yogurt. Kids could enter to win various prizes, and/or win a family holiday to Disneyland Paris.
